The old-style barbershop with its artifacts and old-style atmosphere as well as
the motley cast of musicians at the Saturday jams have been irresistable subjects for anyone with a camera.  On this page, we share a sampling of pictures and videos made by visitors to the Barbershop, including the work of  several professional photographers and videographers who have documented the Barbershop for various projects.  Other photographs are of performances
of the Archie’s Barbershop Jambassadors and special events such as
concerts and workshops.

Across the street, Sheryl Sears, David Oziel, and Howard Moss, braved the cold air to sing and play at the Riverdale Park Holiday Market. Earlier in the day we had a book signing on Photograph History of Riverdale Park and Eleanor Ellis closed out the Holiday Market around 6pm. What a fun day

We're back

2009 02 14 -- Look Who is Back

A bunch of folks worked hard over the weekend to get the old bookstore location into shape.  We hauled loads of debris, cleaned, made repairs, retrieved stuff out of storage, and tested the acoustics.  The place has great light, lots of room, and the trains don't drown out the music.

However, the sound is very live.  We still need some large rugs and perhaps curtains and other forms of sound buffering.  We aren't moved in fully and it isn't time to send out a press release.  But we can jam and work starting Saturday February 21st.

Many thanks to Miles Spicer, Willie Leebel, David Jackson, David Bird, Jim Bunch, Dale Rothlesberger and Rhona Cohen, Nathan Lande, Joe Gonzalas and N.J. Warren.  Thanks also to Jim, Nancy and several other town residents who showed up on Saturday to help.  Plus, Nancy is lending us a mini-fridge.  The town folks want us in the community and they want music.

Blues and Swing Week at Davis and Elkins College in West Virginia. About 30 folks connected with the Archie Edwards Blues Heritage Foundation were in attendance. Eleanor Ellis and Ian Walters were on staff. Most of the rest of us took classes and jammed -- sometimes until dawn. [Thanks to Willie Leebel for some of the pix]

AFRH and FSGW

May and June 2008 AFRH Concerts and June Performance at FSGW
Rick Franklin and His Delta Blues Boys performed at the Armed Forces Retirement Home home in May. They play Hokum blues at its best.

Jammers from the barbershop spent a lot of time in the picnic area jamming and then later performed on one of the stages.

In June, The Social Ramble made its debut performance at the AFRH, with Maureen Andary adding pizzazz for the final tunes. The Ramblers met at Barbershop jams.

Last Jam January 2008

January 26, 2008Last Jam at the Barbershop 2007 Bunker Hill Rd, N.W. Washington DC 20018

Last jam at the Alphas Tonsorial Parlor at 2007 Bunker hill road. About a hundred folks dropped in to play some tunes, listen, visit, spill beer, and say good-by. Fifty years of music history is now packed in storage. However, the foundation remains committed to Archie's tradition of sharing the music and encouraging all players. The spirit you see in the pictures will spill out into other corners of D.C. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . If you have high res. pix of the last jam and don't mind me picking through and doing some editing, I would like to get them and include them in this gallery. December 2007 Pics

December 11, 2007, AFRH Gig and Holiday Party
The Sheryl Sears Trio played the Armed Forces Retirement Home on Tuesday, Dec 11. The following Saturday, December 15, we held a holiday party at the shop. The barbershop has been sold out from under us, but we are going kicking and screaming and singing the blues. Good music with good friends. Saturday, December 22, was a smaller jam. A few of us ended up staying past 7. Dru, who had not been to the shop since Archie died, and David ripped into a lot of slide stuff at the end. Paul Kennedy organized a final photo shoot and then packing. You can see a partly stripped barbershop in the December 29 jam pix.
